Driving Traffic to Your Website

So you think  you have the perfect idea for a brilliant new web site right? You have a kick @ss design, your content is perfect and things are looking just like they should for you to make a few dollars on your site from advertising and affiliate sales… the thing is, since the site is new, how are you gonig to get that traffic there.

Competing with another site, who buys your keywords, probably isn’t going to cut it. How can we as individual compete with corporations who have money to spend that we just can’t match.

Still, you’ve got to get some traffic going if you’re going to convert it to sales.

There are other ways aside from the search engines to build traffic, however, first of all, let me say, don’t give up on the search engine. Optimize your content the absolute best that you can, and if you build it right, google.. or msn, or yahoo are going to serve it up.

I tend to believe that too many of us sit back and concentrate our energies on Google, who is frankly, glutted with marketers to the point that if you want on google to give you money for your adsense, I think you’re going to be a hungry marketer.

Play to Google, yes, but don’t concentrate on them to the exclusion of others. Lately I’ve found that a LOT of my traffic is coming from Yahoo and frankly, I dont’ care where it comes from, as long as it gets here. If yahoo is serving it up.. I”m playing to Yahoo.

So buying ads isn’t an option for you right. For most small web site owners it just isn’t. we don’t have the resources to dump several hundred a day into advertising dollars, but there are countless other ways to make it happen.

What you want really, isn’t the one time visitor who’s not coming back. You want to build up a loyal following who are going to increase your traffic by word of mouth, and increases your earnings. Thats going to be done by not just playing to the search engines, but also by working your site for all its worth.

Adding great ORIGINAL content,  responding to comments to your site, answering questions, adding new content AND, setting it up to be seen. So how do you accomplish that?

  • Get out that on social networking sites. Add your articles, boost your content and get people talking about it. Leave a link to your site on facebook With lots of friends there, it works, trust me.
  • Blog like crazy about your site on other blogs. Leave comments, questions and links.
  • Use Affiliate Marketing to its every advantage.
  • Send out newletters, comments to other sites and small reminders in Email ( NO I DO NOT MEAN SPAM THEM)
  • Leave comments with a single link on other blogs, forums or sites. You’re going to find that you will get a lot of traffic this way.
  • Set up a competition, trade newsletters, use referrals
  • Work your site. Don’t let the content get stale, don’t neglect to answer back to an email, or respond to comments, be genuinely decent to people. Answer their comments or questions and always try to treat them as a guest in your online house. Make actual friends of your site users and they are going to keep coming back.
