When we researched some of the online sites for Unemployment we found the best of the best laid out in the states sites with just a few exceptions. Most notably, Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania had state unemployment sites that were truly heinous to use. This comes as no real shock. When we telephoned those office and asked a few questions we were greeted with impatient answers and less than pleasant tones.
Conversely, when we took a look at Nebraska, Washington State and Iowa unemployment we were treated to a really pleasant trek across their websites. We did try the telephone tactic to see how we were treated. Iowa was somewhat impatient, while Washington and Nebraska unemployment offices answered our questions pleasantly, spoke in reasonable tones for even the most foolish of questions and actively did their best to help us navigate their web sites, even though it wasn’t their job to do so.
Hats off to those three states. All in all we felt it was much more time efficient to visit the websites rather than to search for jobs offline first, and most state websites as well as the private job services such as Monster.com permit you to leave your resume there and enter it into a resume matching service. That puts your resume out there where people are going to see it and act on it. Your resume will be sent to companies who are looking for people with the skills and experience that you have.
