HELP!! My sound stopped working after I reinstalled Windows!!
I can’t hear anything at all.
Why won’t they work?? That was the frantic phone call from my sister, who is learning slowly to reformat her computers and reinstall the things the kids break..
Chances are the answer is that when you wiped out the computer, you didn’t realize that the mainboard drivers weren’t saved to be put back on.
How it works is that if your sound card and or your video card is a built in chip, you won’t have good video or sound until you reinstall the drivers (little bits of software that make the electronic hardware function right)
In many cases you’ve got the software you need in your bundle that came with your computer, and its usually called main board drivers.
Feed in the CD and follow directions to reinstall the video and sound drivers for your particular mother board.
If you don’t have them, you need to find out the name of your main board, which will usually display when the computer starts up.
Once you have that, go to the manufacturers web site and then download the drivers you need.
IN most cases the manufacturer keeps them on their web site.
Failing that, Drivers.com will be your next and best bet.
Once you’ve downloaded the drivers, in most cases, all you’re going to need to do is double click them to install.
For the most part there are instructions to follow, and you’ll find that if you do, the sound will work for you.
If that doesn’t work, since nearly every case is specific, someone on the site or forums will be glad to help you install them if you post the question here.
