Using the Net to Buy Smarter

The web has made buying things a lot easier over the years, as we’ll all agree. Point and click and those apples from Washington will be at your Nebraska doorstep in a day. The ease of it all can bring the whole world a lot closer to you.You can buy better on the internet. Of course you have to watch things like the shipping prices to make sure your bargain is really a bargain, but you do get a good deal if you pay attention.

Still, internet shopping does have a down side. You don’t get to actually see the product in action and you have to rely a lot more on things like reviews and what people had to say about it, and comparison shopping is right out the window… or is it?

Of course you can comparison shop on the internet. There are sites just made for those of us who want to compare prices and check out shipping costs before we click that final submit button.  Granted a lot of the cool shopping tools and sites got hit hard by the dot com downsize of a few years ago, but fortunately some pretty good ones have come along to replace them.

Among the best comparison sites to check out, I personally love Dealtime.com , Shopper.com, and My Simon.com,all of which let you take a hard look at more than one site and more than one product, comparing them to find what you need at a price you don’t mind paying.

You can compare  product ratings, consumer satisfaction, prices, shipping and product specifications on sites such as these and get the low down on what other products are out there that you might be interested in.

That doesn’t mean you don’t need to pay attention to a site that gets served up to you by someone like My Simon. There are stinkers in every barrel and the net has a few of them.
Read the fine print. Just because your reputable comparison shopping site offered them up, doesn’t make them infallible.
There are some sites, such as one I visited once upon an internet, that feature double discounts (which was, coincidentally the name of the site, doublediscount.com) and they also add a hefty little fee to your “low low, unbeatable, absolutely incredible price”.
What that means to you is that they jack it up by adding other little tack on fees, making the price of your item a lot more than you want to pay. NEVER NEVER click that submit button til you get a total price in your hot little hand, whether its internet discount sites, or offline bargain basements.

Pay attention to the sites shipping fees and what you’re going to be paying overall, before you decide if its really a rock bottom price.
Sites such as Tiger direct for one  will give you some incredible deals and some awesome sales on things like cameras and computer parts, and the shipping is reasonable, making it well worth buying from them.
Other sites will charge you an astronomical amount, such as 25 dollars for basic ground shipping of a half pound item.
Watch the online shipping costs and do check into the sites you’re buying from.  Compare the sites themselves to others and check out the site name by googling it to find out if there are many complaints about it before you purchase from them.

When you find two or three good online store sites, stick with them. Always comparison shop for things such as electronics, computers and networking parts. There are multiple great sites out there trying to get your business by offering good deals at good prices. I found my laptop chill mat for under 25 dollars. Yes, that’s a good price.

Using sites that compare prices, shipping, and fees, as well as how satisfied the consumer is with a particular online site only makes good sense. Comparison sites are alive and well, and comparison shopping does exist on the web.
