No matter how careful you are, there will come a time when you lose a computer driver of one kind or another.
Most generally you will accidentally uninstall it, the cat will step on the keyboard at a strategic time or the kids will wonder exactly what that file does and check it out.
Don’t laugh. Every single one of those thngs has happened to me.
While windows of all flavors offer a lot of printer or other device drivers, so that your computer printer can interact with the computer, at some point too yoiu’re going to find that there is one you don’t have and you’ve got to go and find it.
If you suddenly wake up one day and the printer decides to take a day off, try reinstalling the drivers first to make sure that’s not your issue. In many cases it will be straightforward and Windows Operating systems will provide the drivers , but what if they don’t?
Chances are you can, by doing a little selective surfing, go find it and reinstall it on your own, even if you aren’t a computer wizard.
A few of the things you should try, when seeking a driver are:
- Drivers.com, which is a repository of drivers that run the gamut from motherboard drivers to the printer of five years ago. Registration is required but payment usually isn’t.
- Many, if not most manufacturers keep a repository of the drivers for nearly everything they manufacture. Find the model number and the name of your printer and go to the manufacturers site.
- The store or outlet where you bought the printer might have the disc you need to reinstall it. In some cases they will offer it for free while in others they will charge you.
- IF you can’t find the printer drivers online, telephone the printers manufacturer directly, using the contact information from their web site. In most cases they can tell you what site online will have your printer driver.
In some cases, you’re not going to find the driver because you own an older model printer, While that seems like a pain, the simple truth is that companies like Hewlett Packard and Epson, to name just a few, offer printers now for less than the price of the cartridge. Some printers are going as low as 30 dollars for a decent printer that will get the job done.
If it comes down to having to dig and search and try to find a comparable driver, maybe you’re going to be further ahead to just replace the printer?
